What are 'dialers'? Print E-mail
Sunday, 24 April 2005
This type of software is a favourite of pornographic vendors. Once installed they will normally disconnect the user from their modem’s usual Internet service provider and utilise more expensive premium rate phone numbers, and the user is billed accordingly. Dialers do not spy on users but they are malevolent in nature and can rack up expensive and unwanted bills.

In general, if a dialer is detected on your system you either know why and how it got there or it sneaked in illegally through drive-by install or bundling activity.
